Part of a crime report circulating on social networks, in which a German X user’s comment on three thumbs-up emojis is interpreted in Sweden as an admission of criminality – including a full analysis of his thoughts and feelings. Users were so surprised by the “telepathic abilities” of the prosecutor’s office that the letter was thought to be a fake, but as “Apollo News” reports, it is genuine.
Background to the emoji crime: a 15-year-old girl in Sweden kills her suspected rapist – a man of immigrant origin. Someone posted this information on X and added: “Does he now have 77 virgins?”.
The accused 64-year-old then apparently put three thumbs up emojis under this message. As Apollo News reports, the Kassel prosecutor’s office interpreted this as an admission of guilt: a preliminary investigation was opened. A few months later, a penalty notice arrived in the mail.
The letter made various assumptions about the mindset and level of knowledge of user X, stating that the accused had been aware that he condoned such deliberate killing and that he was particularly pleased that the person killed was an immigrant. The image of the letter is discussed in X, where the user is apparently also accused of not even knowing that the victim of the revenge attack was Muslim: he had no objective knowledge of the matter.
Users initially questioned the authenticity of the image, and one even spoke of the “telepathic abilities” of law enforcement, given the detailed accusations made against the user and his alleged thoughts and feelings (all based on the three emoji). The case in question had made international headlines, with many media outlets reporting, and Swedish sources being the latest to reveal the perpetrator’s immigrant background – specifically,“Fria Tider” wrote: “A 26-year-old taxi driver from the Middle East was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl – and was subsequently found hanged in a nature reserve”.
According to the report, she had lured him into an ambush and killed him, along with her boyfriend and his brothers. All five people involved were sentenced to prison.
The X user was fined 60 daily fines of €30 each (or €1 800 in total). As reported by Apollo News, the 64-year-old can still appeal. This would then lead to a court hearing.
In Austria, a pensioner was convicted last year because of a pig smile: the police found it offensive(Report24 reported.)
Delivery Note! Now in Germany, I wonder when this will land here in the sticks… question of time.
